"Cynthia was an amazing support to our entire family after the birth of our premature twins. She helped our family for over 4 months while my husband finished his CPA and I returned to work. She provided a great deal of education, emotional support, household support, and loving care for our little guys. Her calm demeanor was just what our family needed and she did a wonderful job of picking up on our cues and providing the right support at the right time. We don't know how we could have weathered our many transitions without her support. Our little guys came to love Cynthia and would light up every time she entered the room."

Cynthia Jordan Fisher
Cynthia Jordan Fisher holds a BA in Human Ecology and has been working with newborns and their families for the past 36 years. In 1986 she completed her training to become an AMI certified Montessori Assistant to Infancy, covering ages prenatal to three years. This included observing births and newborns and a practicum in a newborn nursery in Rome, Italy. It was there that she began learning, firsthand, the care of the newborn and new mother.
After the birth of her first child in 1986, Cynthia began five years of work in Hawaii with mothers and children birth to age three: first, developing a parent/child program called Babies By The Sea and also, working as a Child Development Specialist training outreach workers in child development. Her work involved home visits with at risk parents from many cultural backgrounds through the original piloting of Healthy Start. She assisted them in learning about their newborn or infant. This included baby care, feeding, play and setting up their home environment. She also taught parents how to read baby’s cues and ways to strengthen their bond with their baby.
Since moving to the Blue Ridge, Cynthia has been working continuously with families in several different capacities. First, is the parent/ child group she began in 1996 called Montessori Open Mornings, a program for parents and their children newborns to age three.
Second, in 2002 she began The Village Playhouse, in the Glass Building, off Charlottesville's historic Downtown Mall. For years this venue served as a coffeehouse style setting for parents to come and relax with their young children. Parents and children attended various classes or family events that were held in the Playhouse.
In addition, Cynthia taught preschool at Free Union Country School for three years. Then in 2006 she began teaching and directing a program called Babies By The Blue Ridge, a Montessori Infant/Toddler program for children ages 10 months thru three years in her home. At that time she also began her work as a postpartum doula for Month10Doulas and is a certified postpartum doula with DONA (Doulas of North America).
Cynthia is also a founder, trainer and director of a community based nonprofit postpartum doula service which Month10 began in 2018 called Nearby Baby (www.nearbybaby.org). Nearby Baby provides doula support after birth to families, regardless of their ability to pay.
She has two daughters ages 37 and 28 now and five grandchildren as well! She loves yoga, biking, walking, gardening, speaking Spanish and travels abroad.
"Both of our children have been fortunate to attend BBBR for the school year and summer camp over the last three years. They have been nurtured by Cynthia and have grown in her beautiful, intentional environment. As parents we have also benefited from her support and great knowledge of child development and educational resources. We all love Tia and are grateful for the special space she has created for our little ones!"
